In a written reply in the Lok Sabha, the Minister of State for New and Renewable Energy put India's installed wind capacity at 57,443 MW as on 30 June 2026. By state: Gujarat 16,086 MW, Tamil Nadu 12,273 MW, Karnataka 8,896 MW, Maharashtra 6,318 MW, Rajasthan 5,516 MW, Andhra Pradesh 4,461 MW, Madhya Pradesh 3,686 MW, Telangana 128 MW, Kerala 71 MW and others 4 MW.

Wind generation in FY 2025-26 was 106 billion units. Annual additions were 3,253 MW in 2023-24, 4,151 MW in 2024-25 and 6,057 MW in 2025-26, with generation of 83, 83 and 106 billion units respectively. India ranked 4th globally in wind installation up to 31 December 2025 as per the GWEC Report 2026. The reply lists measures including graded inter-state transmission system (ISTS) charges for projects commissioned after 30 June 2025, the Green Energy Corridor, the National Repowering and Life Extension Policy for Wind Power Projects, 2023, viability gap funding for offshore wind, the revised prototype turbine guidelines of 12 June 2025 and the ALMM mechanism for wind turbines and components.

Why it matters for wind: The reply gives developers and lenders an official baseline for fleet size, state spread and the pace of additions, which have risen each year to 6,057 MW in 2025-26. It also restates the policies that bear on wind projects, from graded ISTS charges and offshore viability gap funding to repowering and the ALMM mechanism.
