1. MNRE clarifies prototype wind turbines need ALMM (Wind) listing for commercial deployment

MNRE · 14 July 2026

MNRE issued a clarification (OM No. 238/17/2017-Wind) to its OM of 25 June 2026 (see the 26 June edition), which amended the Revised Guidelines for installation of prototype wind turbine models. The clarification says installation of prototype wind turbine models for commercial deployment shall be undertaken only after inclusion of the turbine model in the ALMM (Wind) List.

Prototype wind turbine models may continue to be installed and commissioned for testing before enlistment in ALMM (Wind), in accordance with clause 5 of the Revised Guidelines issued by OM of 12 June 2025. The OM was issued with the approval of the competent authority.

Why it matters for wind: New turbine platforms can still be field-tested without waiting for ALMM (Wind) listing, so turbine development is not blocked. But any model used for commercial supply must first appear on the list, so manufacturers and their project customers need to time enlistment with rollout plans.
