Covering 31 January to 6 February 2026. Budget week, with one change that matters directly for wind turbine costs. Every item is checked against the issuing authority's own document.

1. Budget keeps 5% customs duty on wind component parts to March 2028

Ministry of Finance and MNRE · 1 and 4 February 2026

Customs Notification 02/2026, issued with the Union Budget, replaces entry 230 of the concessional duty schedule. Parts and sub-parts for making or maintaining special bearings, gearboxes, yaw components and turbine controllers, parts for rotor blades, and balsa wood and carbon fibre for blades all stay at 5% basic customs duty. Forged steel rings (tariff item 7326 90 99) for making special bearings are added. The entry runs until 31 March 2028.

On 4 February MNRE told manufacturers to apply for Concessional Customs Duty Certificates for forged steel rings through its Wind CCDC portal, with invoices and packing lists matching the tariff item.

Why it matters for wind: Imported parts are a meaningful share of turbine cost, so two more years of concessional duty supports turbine pricing in tenders and repowering projects. Adding forged rings targets the bearing supply gap that ALMM (Wind) localisation rules have exposed.

2. CEA surveys domestic grid-forming inverter manufacturing capacity

CEA · 3 February 2026

CEA asked manufacturers to report their grid-forming inverter manufacturing capacity in India in a set format.

Why it matters for wind: Grid-forming capability is increasingly discussed for inverter-based plants, including storage paired with wind. A capacity survey is an early sign of where technical requirements for new connections may be heading.
